Tandoori chicken as the name goes is a flavorful and spicy roasted chicken traditionally prepared in clay oven/ tandoor. This  popular Indian dish can be easily prepared at home by roasting the marinated chicken in oven/ tawa. Yes you heard it right! All you need is simple curd/ yogurt and spices to marinate the Chicken leg/ drumstick/ Chicken thigh and then roast it in oven in highest temperature you have. Super simple  to prepare and you can have restaurant style tandoor chicken at home without any hassle. I thought to post this recipe because the holy month of ramadan is starting and such simple recipes could be helpful. For this recipe I used regular curd/dahi but using hung curd will be helpful. Just tie the regular curd in a muslin cloth and remove excess water by hanging it. A ball of curd will be achieved after all he water will be gone. Also I have not used any food color in the recipe instead used good quality chili powder to get exact restaurant like appearance. So let’s get to the making!

Ingredients
  1. 1. Chicken thigh - 1
  2. 2. Ginger garlic paste – 1 ½ tsp
  3. 3. Red chilli powder – 1 to 2 tsp (depending on spice level)
  4. 4. Turmeric powder – ½ tsp
  5. 5. Coriander powder – ½ tsp
  6. 6. Garam masala powder – ½ tsp
  7. 7. Salt – to taste
  8. 8. Curd/ Dahi – ¼ cup
  9. 9. Lemon juice - 1 tbsp
  10. 10. Oil – 2 to 4 tbsp (for brushing)
Note
  1. * 1 cup = 235 ml
Instructions
  1. Wash and clean chicken thigh. To it add curd, red chili powder, turmeric powder, garam masala powder, salt, coriander powder, lemon juice and ginger garlic paste. Mix well until combined. Marinate it for about 30 minutes at least. For best results marinate it overnight.
  2. After marinating the chicken for preferred time, preheat l oven at 400 degree./ highest temperature available yo you. Now line a baking tray with aluminum foil. Brush 2 tbsp oil with brush and place the chicken and bake the chicken for 20 to 25 minutes.
  3. I flipped the chicken leg after 12 minutes and cooked the other side for another 10 to 12 minutes or until done. When both sides are completely cooked broil the chicken leg for 2 to 3 minutes on each side.
  4. I flipped it poured some oil around the chicken as well. I broiled it to get charred flavor snd tandoori color and you can see the final result was little charred one just as the restaurant which actually brings all the flavors to the chicken. When the chicken has achieved desired levels of cooking take the tray out and serve it hot with mint chutney.
