Hariyali chicken tikka (Air fryer) also known as green chicken kebab is a flavorful and lip smacking appetizer/ starter. Hariyali chicken tikka is prepared by marinating chicken pieces with a blend of fresh herbs like mint and coriander paste and cooked to perfection. Hariyali means green in hindi. Hence the name hariyali chicken is derived.

For this hariyali chicken tikka recipe boneless chicken is ideal; as the curd and lemon will help to keep the chicken pieces soft, juicy and succulent.

I prepared this Hariyali chicken in Air fryer. But you could try making it on tawa or oven as well just like this recipe Chicken reshmi kebab, Seekh kebab, Chicken tikka.

Spiciness – Adding green chilli helps to add spiciness and green color to the chicken

Yogurt – Use full fat hung curd for marination, it helps tenderize chicken.

Ingredients to make Hariyali chicken tikka

  • 4 pcs, Chicken breast (chopped to cubes)

  • 1/2 teaspoon, Coriander powder

  • 1 teaspoon, Garam masala powder

  • 1/2 teaspoon, Cumin powder

  • 1 tablespoon, Oil

  • 1 teaspoon, Lemon juice

  • Salt – to taste

  • FOR GRINDING
  • 1 no., Onion (small sized)

  • 1/2 cup, Mint

  • 1/2 cup, Coriander leaves

  • 1/4 cup, Curd (hung curd)

  • 1 tablespoon, Ginger garlic paste

  • 2 nos., Green chilli (according to spiciness)

Directions to make Hariyali chicken tikka in air fryer

  • In a blender add onion, mint leaves, coriander leaves, curd, green chilli and ginger garlic paste. Grind it to fine paste. Keep it aside.
  • Take the chicken breast and chop it into medium sized cubes. Wash it thoroughly and transfer it to a bowl.
  • Now to the chicken breast cubes add coriander powder, cumin powder, salt, garam masala powder, 1 tbsp oil, lemon juice and pinch of turmeric powder (never skip while cooking non veg). Mix everything well so that the chicken is well coated in masala. I added 1 tbsp water while mixing. Marinate the chicken for 30 minutes to 1 hour.
  • After an hour of marination Take each skewer and thread the chicken pieces.
  • Preheat Air fryer at 400 for 5 minutes. ( I have CRUX air fryer at home and the below mentioned cook time suits me, timing may vary a little according to the brand) When the air fryer is preheated brush a tbsp of oil on the baking rack/ place a parchment paper on the baking rack (prevents chicken from sticking) then place the skewers with chicken one by one evenly without overcrowding. Brush a tsp oil over the chicken pieces as well (optional). Air fry for 10 minutes.
  • After 10 minutes you will notice that the chicken is partially cooked. Flip the skewers then air fry for another 7 to 10 minutes or until cooked to perfection. Then remove the chicken pieces from the air fryer and cook the next batch. Serve it hot immediately.
