Akhrot halwa/ Walnut halwa is a delicious Indian dessert prepared with walnuts/akhrot, milk, jaggery and flavored with milk powder. Akhrot halwa is a rich and delicious winter dessert. It is usually prepared during Holi, Raksha bandhan or Eid. So these are the reasons this dessert post is here now. Holi is almost there. Winter is in its peak, hence thought this akrot halwa recipe will be useful. Also it can be prepared in just 15 minutes.
Akhrot ka sheera is mostly served during weddings. I am sure many of us might have felt the aroma just after entering the dinning/ eatery in wedding halls.
This walnut halwa can be prepared quickly with handful ingredients only. For this halwa I used palm jaggery. Because of which it is dark brown in color. You could add regular sugar too. I ground the walnuts/akhrots to fine powder; as we don’t enjoy big chunks in it; but you could leave walnut powder as coarse as possible with big chunks. This way it will look authentic.
Akhrot halwa does not require much ghee. The oil from walnuts will be enough to cook the mixture. You could also add mawa/ khoya to this recipe. It will help thicken the walnut mixture. Also will yield in bars just like store bought ones. You could put varak for shiny top. So let’s get to the making of akhrot halwa!!!
