Green gram sweet sundal, Pachai payaru sundal

Green gram sweet sundal/ Pachai payaru sundal is a protein rich delicious sundal that can be served as Prasad/ evening snack. And you guys definitely know why this sundal post popped today in blog all of a sudden!! Yes it is Navaratri!!! And here is the first recipe for it and I am going to spam the blog with lots of Navaratri posts for next few days.

So sundal is usually a savory snack but it can be made in sweet version too and it tastes super yum. My mom prepares different kinds if sundal all the 9 days and this one is of my all time favorite one. Made with just 4 ingredients and in no time our sweet sundal will be ready for the evening. So let’s get to the making!

Ingredients

  • Green gram dal/ Pachai payaru – 1 cup
  • Jaggery/ Vellam – ½ cup
  • Grated coconut – ¼ cup
  • Cardamom – 2
  • Water – 1 cup + ¼ cup

Note

* 1 cup = 235 ml


How to make Green gram sweet sundal with step by step images


  1. Wash and soak green gram dal in enough water overnight or for 8 hours.
  2. After 8 hours of soaking transfer the soaked green gram dal to cooker add 1 cup water. Pressure cook dal for only 1 whistle. One (1) whistle is more than enough as it is soaked for 8 hours, too many whistles will make the green gram mushy. When the pressure has subsided completely open the cooker. Keep this aside.
  3. Now in another pan add jaggery and ¼ cup water. When the mixture starts to boil add cardamom and grated coconut. Mix well.
  4. Now add cooked green gram dal to the jaggery mixture. Mix well. When the mixture looks dry put off the flame. Relish it.
