I prepared this tawa chicken biryani for an event called “Cook Along with Sandy” hosted by me for uaefoodguide today. So i thought to share the recipe in my blog as well.
Ingredients
- Basmati rice – 1 cup
- Chicken – ½ lb
- Onion – 1
- Tomato – 2
- Green chilli – 2
- Mint – ½ cup
- Cilantro – ½ cup
- Curd – 2 tbsp
- Ginger garlic paste – 1 tsp
- Red chili powder – 1 tsp
- Coriander powder – ½ tsp
- Garam masala powder – 1 tsp
- Turmeric powder – ¼ tsp
- Salt – to taste
- Oil – 1 tbsp
- Ghee – 1 tsp
- Cashews – 5
- Dry grapes – 5
- Fried onion – 1/4 cup
Whole spices
- Bay leaf – 1
- Clove – 2
- Cardamom – 1
- Cinnamon stick – ½
- Star anise – 1
- Cumin seeds – ¼ tsp
- Fennel seeds – ¼ tsp
How to make tawa chicken biryani with step by step images

- Wash and soak rice for 20 minutes. Then cook rice in electric cooker or pressure cooker for 3 whistles. Keep the cooked rice aside. Slice onions, chop tomatoes, mint and cilantro. Keep it aside.
- Heat oil in a tawa add whole spices after it crackles and is aromatic add sliced onions and green chilli. Saute well add ginger garlic paste. Saute until the raw flavor goes.
- Now add chopped mint and cilantro, saute well. When mint and cilantro shrink add chopped tomatoes, turmeric powder, chili powder, coriander powder, garam masala powder and salt. Mix well and let the tomatoes cook.
- When the tomatoes have cooked add curd and chicken pieces to the tomato mixture and mix well. Add little water and allow the chicken to cook with lid on.
- When the chicken mixture looks dry and cooked, add cooked basmati rice and mix gently. When done put off the flame and garnish it with chopped cilantro, fried cashews, dry grapes and fried onion. Serve it hot with raita!
