Dal fry recipe, Moong dal fry

Ingredients
- 1. Moong dal- ½ cup
- 2. Water – 1 ½ cups
- 3. Turmeric powder – ¼ tsp
To temper
- 1. Onion – 1 (finely chopped)
- 2. Tomato – 1 (finely chopped)
- 3. Ginger – 1 tsp (chopped)
- 4. Green chili – 1 or 2 (finely chopped)
- 5. Curry leaves – few
- 6. Cilantro/ Coriander – 1 tbsp (finely chopped)
- 7. Red chili powder – ¼ to ½ tsp
- 8. Turmeric powder – ¼ tsp
- 9. Cumin / Jeera powder – ¼ to ½ tsp
- 10. Kasuri methi – 1 tsp (optional)
- 11. Dry red chili – 1
- 12. Mustard seeds – ½ tsp
- 13. Cumin seeds/ Jeera – ½ tsp
- 14. Hing – few pinches
- 15. Oil/ Ghee – 1 tbsp
Note
- * 1 cup = 235 ml
Instructions
- Wash moong dal. In a pressure cooker add washed moong dal, 1 to 1 ½ cups of water and turmeric powder. Pressure cook for 4 whistles or until dal is cooked to mashy consistency. (Sorry forgot to take picture of the mashed dal) Keep mashed dal aside.
- Now heat oil in a wide pan/ kadai to it add mustard seeds, when it splutters add cumin seeds when it crackles add hing, chopped ginger, garlic , onion, curry leaves and green chili. Saute well until aromatic and onions turn translucent in color.
- Now to the sauteed onions add turmeric powder, red chili powder and cumin powder. Saute for few seconds only because the dry powder will get burnt fast.
- Now add chopped tomatoes and saute well until mushy.
- Now to the onion tomato mixture add mashed dal, kasuri methi and 1 cup water. Mix well. You can add required any mount of water to get dal fry consistency. Allow the mixture to boil well, when everything looks combined add chopped cilantro and put off the flame. Serve it hot with roti or rice.
