How to make pulusu upma with step by step images
- Soak tamarind in warm water and extract tamarind juice from it. Grind rice coarsely in a blender / mixie and set aside.
- Heat oil in a heavy bottom pan ; add red chili and curry leaves and saute till they wilt, then add onion cubes and saute till they become translucent. Now add chili powder, salt and sugar and saute till the raw smell of chili powder goes.
- Now add the tamarind juice along with water and allow it to boil. When the water starts boiling lower the flame and add the ground rice slowly with continuous stir. If u stop stirring while adding ground rice it will form lumps and the upma will not taste good. Now cover it with a lid and cook it in low flame. A gentle stir is required occasionally so that upma does not get burnt . Make sure u don’t mash the upma while stirring. It took 20 mins for me to cook. Put off the flame when done. It tastes best when served hot!
