Black urad dal vada, Karuppu ulundu vadai, How to make urad dal vada

Black urad dal vada is prepared by grinding soaked black urad dal in blender and then frying them in oil after shaping them. This vada has crispy outside and soft inside. I got to know about this recipe from my neighbor cum friend and I was so surprised to see vada in black color and kept enquiring about it until I tasted it. Trust me it was damn delicious and I have longing to make this vada for an occasion. Thank you priya lava for sharing this awesome recipe. So lets get to the making!

Ingredients

  • Black urad dal – 1 cup
  • Green chili – 1
  • Salt as needed
  • Curry leaves a spring
  • Oil for frying



How to make black urad dal vada with step by step images


  1. Soak black urad dal in water overnight. Next morning in a blender add soaked black urad dal, green chili and salt. Grind it coarse without adding water and transfer it into a bowl and add curry leaves and mix well.
  2. Heat oil in a frying pan. Take small portion of batter and flatten it then make a hole in the center of the vada. Slide one by one in the oil.
  3. Fry them until they golden brown and transfer it to a plate with paper towel. Serve it hot with chutney and sambar.
