Uppu urundai/ Undrallu/ Biyampindi untrallu is a steamed South Indian breakfast that tastes perfect with any spicy chutney. These rice flour balls are super easy to make as it just requires tempering and steaming and your breakfast will be ready in no time. My mom usually prepares this at home actually in 2 versions, one is steamed balls without water and another one is with soupy water along with balls which I like very much. So she makes that one for me. But as I grew up I understood both are made in the same way and tastes same hence started liking in both versions. For this recipe I used store bought rice flour which yields perfect results. This uppu urundai/ undrallu can be served as snacks too. So lets get to the making!

Ingredients
  1. 1. Rice flour – 1 cup
  2. 2. Water – 1 ½ cup
  3. 3. Grated coconut – 2 tbsp
  4. 4. Dried red chili – 3
  5. 5. Mustard seeds – ½ tsp
  6. 6. Urad dal – 1 tsp
  7. 7. Curry leaves- a spring
  8. 8. Salt - as need
  9. 9. Oil -2 tsp + 1 tsp
Note
  1. * 1 cup = 235 ml
Instructions
  1. Heat oil in a pan add mustard seeds in it after it splutters add urad dal after it turns golden brown add red chili and curry leaves when aromatic add water and salt and mix well. Allow the water to boil.
  2. Now reduce the flame, add rice flour in it and mix well continuously without forming lumps. As soon as u add rice flour it will form a dough now add grated coconut and mix well then put off the flame. Allow the mixture to cool down covered with cloth so it does not dry out.
  3. Now heat water in a steamer and grease the steaming plate. Grease hands with oil and When the dough is warm enough take small portion of dough and shape it into round shape little smaller than golf ball using hands and repeat the process.
  4. Now arrange all the rice flour balls in steaming plate and steam for 15 minutes. When done remove it from the steaming plate and serve!
