Kara pidi kuzhukattai is a spicy kozhukattai prepared by steaming the tempered rice flour dough shaped into kozhukattai. Kara pidi kozhukkatai is a simple and easy recipe and holds a special importance during ganesh chaturthi. Pidi kozhukkatai can be prepared in sweet version too. So lets get to the making!

Ingredients

  • Rice flour – 1/2 cup
  • Water – 1 cup
  • Grated coconut – 2 tbsp
  • Dried red chili – 1
  • Mustard seeds – ½ tsp
  • Urad dal – ½ tsp
  • Curry leaves a spring
  • Salt as need
  • Oil -2 tsp

How to make kara pidi kuzhukattai with step by step images


  1. Heat oil in a pan add mustard seeds in it after it splutters add urad dal after it turns golden brown add red chili and curry leaves when aromatic add water and salt and mix well. Allow the water to boil.
  2. Now reduce the flame, add rice flour in it and mix well continuously without forming lumps. As soon as u add rice flour it will form a dough now add grated coconut and mix well then put off the flame.
  3. Allow the mixture to cool down covered with cloth so it does not dry out. Now heat water in a steamer and grease the steaming plate. Grease hands with oil and when the dough is warm enough take a portion of dough and shape it into kozhukattai using hands and repeat the process.
  4. Now arrange all the kozhukattai in steaming plate and steam for 15 minutes. When done remove it from the steaming plate and serve!
