Baby potato biryani recipe, How to make baby potato biryani

Baby potato biryani is a variation from regular biryani in its taste. Its easy to prepare and hassle free recipe. I used frozen baby potatoes in this recipe as I couldn’t get hold of fresh ones in the store. This recipe is a sure divine for potato lovers so without much dragging lets get into the recipe!

Ingredients

  • Basmati rice – 2 cups
  • Baby potato – 8
  • Onion – 1
  • Tomato – 1
  • Green chili – 2
  • Mint – 1 cup
  • Ginger garlic paste – 1 tsp
  • Red chili powder – 1 tsp
  • Garam masala powder – ½ tsp
  • Coriander powder – ½ tsp
  • Turmeric powder – ¼ tsp
  • Curd – 2 tbsp
  • Oil – 1 tbsp
  • Salt to taste

Whole spices

  • Bay leaf – 1
  • Star anise – 1
  • Clove – 3
  • Cinnamon stick – ½
  • Cardamom – 1

How to make Baby potato biryani with step by step images

  1. Wash and soak rice in water for 20 minutes. Slice onions thin, chop tomatoes and mint, make slit in green chili and set aside.
  2. Heat oil in a pan add whole spices when aromatic add sliced onions and green chili ; Saute well. Now add ginger garlic paste to it and saute until the raw smell goes then add chopped mint to it and saute till they shrink.
  3. Now add chopped tomatoes to it along with all the dry powders including salt and saute well. When the tomatoes become mushy add curd give it a stir.
  4.  Now add baby potatoes to it and mix everything well. Add soaked rice and water and transfer it to electric rice cooker and cook till done (If using pressure cooker cook for 3 whistles).
  5. When done garnish it with fried onions and serve it hot with onion raita!
