Air fryer onion pakoda recipe, Air fryer pakora

Air fryer onion pakoda/ Air fryer onion fritter is a crispy, healthy and delicious tea time snack that can be consumed without any guilt as these are air fried and not deep fried in oil. Yes the recipe remains the same just cooking method/ technique is different to avoid deep frying. This onion fritter surely tasted great and I dint see any compromise in the taste nor it was time consuming also it had its crispiness on for 3 to 4 hours and it dint have to be eaten immediately when out of the air fryer. So on the whole Air fryer worked great for me in making these onion fritters in a healthy and tasty way.

So for this recipe I used my “CRUX AIR FRYER” so the temperatures mentioned in the directions/ instruction and cook time may vary depending on the model and company so try accordingly. i bought this air fryer 2 years back in Macy’s and never used nor opened the box itself for no reason. Since we all are at home thought to experiment with it and I am glad that I started using it at least now. So let’s get to the making!

Ingredients
  1. 1. Onion – 1 (medium sized)
  2. 2. Besan flour – 1 cup
  3. 3. Rice flour – ½ cup
  4. 4. Green chilli – 1
  5. 5. Chopped curry leaves – ½ tbsp
  6. 6. Salt – to taste
  7. 7. Hot oil – 1 tbsp (to yield crispy pakoda)
  8. 8. Oil – 3 tbsp
  9. 9. Water – required amount
Note
  1. * 1 cup = 235 ml
Instructions
  1. Preheat Air fryer at 330. This should take about 10 – 15 minutes depending on the the air fryer. In a bowl add thinly sliced onions, besan flour, rice flour, chopped green chilli, curry leaves, salt and hot oil. Mix well.
  2. Now add water gradually to form the onion pakoda batter. The batter should be crumbly. (I used less than 1/3 cup water to make crumbly batter).
  3. When the air fryer is preheated brush a tbsp oil on the baking rack (prevents pakoda from sticking) then spread the onion pakoda mixture evenly without overcrowding. Do not place big chunks as the inside might not get cooked fully and also the crispy texture may not be achieved. Brush a tbsp oil over the pakoda as well. Now cook for 7 minutes.
  4. After 7 minutes remove the rack from the air fryer and flip the pakora and cook for 5 more minutes again. After 5 minutes you will notice crisp pakoda which is ready, if you reel the inside is not cooked fully cook for 2 more minutes and it should be perfect. Remove the pakoda from air fryer and serve it hot with tea.
