Methi malai paneer recipe, Methi paneer

Okay so I was tempted to try this recipe after seeing a picture in Instagram (I still think if it was there) or somewhere in social media few days back. Methi malai paneer in the pic was ivory in color with tints of green from methi along with paneer cubes floating on this creamy rich gravy.

So before trying on the recipe I wished to verify the images in google and none of the images had anything white in color so made up my mind to prepare this gravy too in the same old traditional orange color. Methi malai paneer as the name goes is a creamy, rich and yummy gravy prepared with basic onion tomato gravy enhanced with methi, paneer cubes and cream along with some butter to make it more appetizing and delish. This simple and quick gravy goes well with nan, roti, kulcha, jeera rice and phulka. This gravy contains the goodness of fresh methi leaves which adds slight bitterness and taste to the dish along with soft paneer. If you are bored with regular butter paneer masala try this gravy and let me know your feedback. So lets get to the making!

Ingredients
  1. 1. Paneer cubes – 10
  2. 2. Heavy cream / Milk – ½ cup
  3. 3. Fresh methi – 1 cup (tightly packed)
  4. 4. Butter - 1 ½ tbsp
  5. 5. Oil – 1 tbsp
  6. 6. Sugar – ½ tsp
For grinding
  1. 1. Onion – 2
  2. 2. Tomato – 1
  3. 3. Ginger – medium sized chunk
  4. 4. Garlic – 1 pearl
  5. 5. Red chilli powder- ½ tsp
  6. 6. Cumin powder – ¼ tsp
  7. 7. Turmeric powder – ¼ tsp
  8. 8. Salt – to taste
Note
  1. * 1 cup = 235 ml
Instructions
  1. Heat a pan with oil to it add ginger chunk and garlic. Saute well for a minute. Now add chopped onion and tomato. Saute well for about 5 – 7 minutes in low to medium flame. When the onions and tomatoes look cooked add turmeric powder, salt, chilli powder and cumin powder. Mix well well and saute for few seconds. Now put off the flame and allow the mixture to cool down.
  2. Now add this cooled mixture to a blender and grind it into fine paste adding little water. Keep this ground paste aside.
  3. Now in the same pan heat a 2 tsp butter and add fresh methi leaves and saute till it shrinks in quantity.
  4. Now to this methi add ground paste and mix well. I used ½ cup water to get right consistency. Do not add more water as we will add cream later which will give the gravy perfect consistency. Allow the mixture to boil well for 2 minutes. Now add paneer cubes and garam masala powder. Mix well and add cream and sugar to the gravy. Allow it to boil for a minute, when everything looks combined add a tsp of butter and put off the flame. Serve it hot with main dish of your choice.
