Broken wheat sweet pongal, Sakkarai pongal recipe

Wheat rava/ Cracked wheat/ dalia/ Broken wheat/ Godhumai rava called with any name is a known nutritious whole grain containing lot of health benefits. Wheat rava/ Broken wheat is bland and nutty which goes / picks up flavors from other ingredients added and blends well making the dish tasty and healthy. Since the pongal festival is almost there I wanted to post some different variety of sweet/ sakkarai pongal, first I wished to post pongal recipe with some millet then decided to try this wheat rava/dalia sweet pongal which is new try for me as well. This recipe is very easy to prepare as the time consumed is very less resulting in delicious and very healthy sweet pongal with aroma of cardamom powder and ghee. Nothing fancy I did in its preparation just replaced rice with wheat rava and voila sweet godhumai rava pongal is ready in no time. Hope you guys like this recipe and have a wonderful pongal 2019!

Ingredients
  1. 1. Cracked wheat/ Dalia/ Godhumai rava – ½ cup
  2. 2. Moong dal – ¼ cup
  3. 3. Jaggery – ½ cup
  4. 4. Water – 2 cups
  5. 5. Cardamom powder – ¼ tsp
  6. 6. Ghee – 3 tbsp
  7. 7. Cashews – 4 to 6
  8. 8. Dry grapes – 4 to 6
Note
  1. * 1 cup = 235 ml
Instructions
  1. In a pressure cooker dry roast cracked wheat/ broken wheat/ dalia in low flame. Make sure it does not burn or brown in color. When wheat rava looks roasted add washed moong dal and 2 cups of water. Mix well.
  2. When the mixture starts to boil cover it with cooker lid and cook for 3 to 4 whistles or till done.
  3. Meanwhile in another pan add jaggery and ¼ cup water. When the jaggery melts completely put off the flame and keep it aside.
  4. When the pressure has subsided open the lid and mash the wheat rava dal mixture. Now add jaggery syrup to the cooked wheat rava mixture using a strainer along with add cardamom powder and mix well. Now switch on the stove and allow the mixture to boil for a minute till combined.   5. Now in a small pan add ghee, cashews and dry grapes. Fry until golden brown and put off the flame. Now pour this mixture to the sweet pongal, mix well and serve it!

How to make cracked wheat sweet pongal with step by step images
