Ring murukku, Chegodilu recipe, Snacks Recipes

Ring murukku also known as chegodilu is a fried snack with crunchy exterior is prepared with rice flour. Ring murukku is a palatable snack which can be prepared for diwali or as tea time snack. Chegodilu are very easy to prepare, as it involves only handful ingredients, very few steps in the making and does not require murukku maker, as these are hand shaped. This is my hubby’s favorite snack and got to know the recipe from my mom in law. So lets get to the making!

Ingredients

  • Rice flour – 1 cup
  • Moong dal – 1 tbsp
  • Cumin seeds – ½ tbsp
  • Sesame seeds – ½ tsp
  • Red chili powder – 1 tsp
  • Salt – to taste
  • Water – 1 cup
  • Ghee – 1 tsp
  • Oil – for frying

How to make ring murukku with step by step images

  1. Soak moong dal in little warm water for 30 minutes.

  2. In a pan add water, salt and ghee. When the water starts to boil add soaked moong dal. Mix well, add rice flour and put off the flame. Mix well to form crumbled dough.

  3. Now add red chilli powder, cumin seeds and sesame seeds to it. Knead the dough well with hands.

  4. Heat oil in a frying pan. Now apply oil to your hand, pinch a small portion of dough. Roll it with you hands into rope shape with 3 inches thick.

  5. Now connect the two edges of the rolled dough rope and seal it well to form small ring. Repeat the process till you finish the whole dough.

  6. Now drop the rings one by one in hot oil and fry them in medium flame. As soon as the ring murukku is dropped in oil, it will start bubbling.

  7. When one side is done they will rise up, then flip it and fry (It will take little longer time to cook). When they turn golden color and when bubbles cease completely, remove from oil and transfer it to a plate with paper towel to drain excess oil. Serve it!
