Capsicum masala rice is a spicy and flavored rice prepared by combining oil roasted capsicum, rice and freshly ground masala powder made with select spices. I never knew about capsicum rice until I tasted it at my sisters house. At first I was hesitant to taste then after tasting dint bother to leave the pan empty. It was very tasty and from then this rice has been one of our favorite rice. Thank you akka for this delicious recipe. This recipe requires grinding of simple masala powder which is the key in making it delicious. So lets get to the making!

Ingredients

  • Capsicum – 1
  • Cooked rice – 1 ½ cup
  • Turmeric powder – ¼ tsp
  • Salt – to taste
  • Oil – 1 tbsp
  • Mustard – ½ tsp
  • Curry leaves a spring

Ingredients To roast and grind

  • Peanuts- 1 tbsp
  • Dry red chili – 3
  • Cumin seeds – ¼ tsp
  • Cinnamon – ¼ stick
  • Coriander seeds – ½ tbsp
  • Peppercorn – ¼ tsp
  • Curry leaves a spring
  • Oil – 1 tsp

How to make Capsicum masala rice with step by step images


Capsicum masala rice

  1. Heat oil in a pan, add all the ingredients mentioned under roast and grind. Roast them until aromatic and golden brown. When done put off the flame and allow it to cool down.
  2. Now transfer it to a blender and grind it into powder. ( It is perfectly alright if they are not finely powdered).

  3. Heat oil in a pan add mustard seeds after it splutters add curry leaves when they become crispy add chopped capsicum and turmeric. Saute well until capsicum is ¾ th done as we want it to be crunchy while eating.
  4. When the capsicum is done add cooked rice, salt and ground masala mixture in it. Mix well and put off the flame. Capsicum masala rice is ready to be served!
